Caddies are available at all 3 John’s Island Club Courses. Requesting caddies is as simple as selecting “CADDIE, or FORE CADDIE” as your mode of transportation when booking starting times or registering for an event.

Caddie request must be submitted at a minimum of 24 hours in advance and up to 7 days ahead of the starting time. Please note during peak play windows caddies could be limited. Any request that are not filled will be communicated to the Member ahead of time to ensure other modes of transportation are
reserved.

Men:

Slacks or mid-length Bermuda style shorts, collared shirts tucked in or turtlenecks tucked in are appropriate. Blue denim is not permitted.

To assure an enjoyable round of golf for all, all rounds must be played in four hours or
less, regardless of the number of players in the group. Players in the morning twosome window are expected to play in three hours. Slower players shall allow faster players through, no matter what size the group. Single players on the course have no standing.

All players must check in with the Golf Team before beginning play.

Under no circumstances are players permitted to start play from residences without Golf Team approval.

Practice is not allowed on the golf course.

Searching for balls other than those played by members of the group is not allowed on the course at any time.

Each player must have his or her own set of golf clubs.

Fishing, jogging, bicycling, and recreational walking is permitted on the golf course daily until 10:00 AM on the back nine, or until golfers are present. The Club reserves the right to amend or change this at any time. No beverage coolers are permitted on the course unless provided by the Club.

College and High School Teams

Out of town College and High School Teams are subject to half guest fee per each team member and per coach.
 
Teams may access practice facilities 1 hour prior to their first tee time.

1. Golf carts shall not be used by a Member or Guest on the Club facilities without proper assignment and registration.
2. Golf carts may only be used on the golf course when the course is open for play.
3. Golf carts may only be operated by persons at least 16 years of age and having a valid automobile driver’s license.
4. Only two persons and two sets of golf clubs are permitted per golf cart.
5. Please use golf cart paths where provided and be careful to avoid soft areas on fairways, especially after rain.
6. Each Member accepts and assumes all responsibility/cost for liability connected with operation of the golf cart.
7. “Course closed” or “hole closed” signs are to be obeyed without exception.
8. Golf Carts should remain 30 feet from the green at all times and please follow the brown fairway entry and exit signs.

1. When approaching a green, park your golf cart on the cart path on the best direct line to the next tee.
2. If you are not holding your place on the course (see General Golf Rules), allow the players behind to play through. Do the same if you stop to search for a lost ball.
3. The Golf Team will report slow play and all breaches of golf etiquette to the Director of Golf. Appropriate action will be taken by a Golf Professional.
4. Due to our type of turf, we recommend that you do not replace divots. Rather, kick the grass in and fill lightly with sand provided on your cart. Do not use sand mix in the rough.
5. Please repair ball marks on the greens.
6. Smooth and rake footprints in all bunkers and leave rake outside the bunker.

Guest privileges may be extended or limited under the rules established by the Club. The Club reserves the right to limit the number of guests that accompany a member on any given day, or over the course of a membership year. Golf Members may sponsor unaccompanied guests during the year at the discretion of the Director of Golf. These requests may be limited to non-peak times. A member may have up to 7 guests with him/her at a time. Daily Guests are limited to play at John’s Island Club six times per year, excluding Club events.

Individuals using Club facilities as guests must be registered by the sponsoring member with the Club. Guests are entitled to use Club facilities only in accordance with the privileges of the membership of the sponsoring member, and upon payment of applicable fees.

Guest charges for any services will be charged against the sponsoring member’s Club account, unless the Club permits cash or credit card payments in these areas. The sponsoring member shall be responsible for all charges incurred by the guest. The sponsoring member is also responsible for the conduct of a guest while at the Club. If the manner, deportment, or appearance of any guest is deemed to be unsatisfactory, the sponsoring member shall, at the request of the Club cause such guest to leave the premises of the Club.

Handicaps are computed in accordance with the USGA Handicap System, or GHIN (Golf Handicap Information Network), a service of the USGA. To establish a GHIN handicap, please inform a member of the Golf Team. You will be entered into the computer program and assigned a GHIN number.

All members and their guests with a USGA approved handicap may participate in Club tournaments given they are on the John’s Island Handicap Roster All handicaps submitted may be reviewed by the Golf Team and Handicap Chairman and may be adjusted for Tournament Play at any time without notice.

The Club also reserves the right to deny any member entry into tournament play for handicap manipulation. Members are responsible for turning in all scores on a daily basis. Any member failing to turn in a score may result in a score being posted that is equal to his/her lowest score on record.

The Professional Staff will post home scores for ALL tournament and organized group play (when formats are applicable). “T” scores are listed below.

Continuing this season, we offer a “Hole-In-One” fund. All members are automatically enrolled. Please notify the Golf Shop if you do not wish to participate. Any participating member getting a “Hole-In-One” on a John’s Island course with a witness, will win Golf Shop credit equal to the total in the fund pool, not to exceed $599. All other players in the group will receive a pair of shoes of their choice. The scorecard should be signed by all players and submitted to the Golf Shop. After each “Hole-In-One” payment, participating members will be billed another $2. Golf Shop Credit will only go to those enrolled in the Hole-In-One Program. Shoes will only go to those playing with an individual enrolled in the Hole-In-One Program.

If lightning is detected in the area, play shall cease and players should immediately seek shelter regardless of whether or not the lightning prediction siren has sounded. John’s Island Club emphasizes that it has the right to stop play if it thinks weather conditions threaten players. If dangerous weather is predicted by the lightning prediction system, ONE long blast of the siren will sound. When players are notified of dangerous weather conditions, verbally or by siren, it is their responsibility to seek shelter. To resume play, THREE short blasts will sound.

John’s Island Club is a NO TIPPING facility; HOWEVER, tipping is permitted for locker room service. PLEASE INFORM YOUR GUESTS OF THIS POLICY.

Practice balls are available for all golf members and their guests. Please practice from designated areas to assist in the perpetuation of a quality tee area. Practice balls are for use at the Club’s practice facilities and should not be used on the golf course for any reason. John’s Island Club has excellent facilities for practicing your golf game. Courtesy and common sense should be used at the limited space North/South warm-up facility. When people are waiting to warm up, please limit your time so everyone has an opportunity to warm-up before play. For those of you who like to work on your game, we ask you to use the excellent practice facilities at the West Course.
 

The North/South range tee will be on the artificial surface, at the East end each Tuesday-Thursday. Please note that the driving range closes at 12:00 PM on Tuesdays. This rotation may be updated with little advance notice.

Twosomes are expected to play in three hours or less. Twosomes should also be respectful of Golf Course Maintenance performing daily golf course prep work by staying behind or going around them to allow them to finish their work in a timely manner.

All transition areas and sand paths are to be played as the General Area (allowing the player to ground their club). Bunkers are identified as sandy areas that are completely enclosed by prepared turf. Other sandy areas are to be treated as the General Area including areas not fully enclosed by turf.

John’s Island Club provides tee time access through the Club website (johnsislandclub.org) by clicking on the “Tee Time Reservations” link on the Golf page, after logging in. This allows members to reserve a specific starting time up to seven (7) days in advance. Members may also call the Golf Team (772) 231-8613 to make a starting time. In order to create the highest level of service, the Club encourages members to fill in all names in the group when reserving a tee time so the Golf Team may make all necessary arrangements (caddies, rental clubs, etc.).

Singles may not reserve starting times. However, if you are a single and looking for a game, call the Golf Team at (772) 231-8613 and they will arrange a game for you.
Twosome only times are available between 8:00 AM and 8:30 AM daily on all courses.  Foursomes may begin play at 8:30 AM.

Unaccompanied Family Members, and other guest card holders may reserve a starting time ONE DAY IN ADVANCE. Unaccompanied temporary members may reserve a starting time 6 days in advance. 

If your plans have changed and you are unable to play, kindly notify the Golf Team as soon as possible. If a tee time is booked and not canceled at least 24 hours before the start time, a fee equivalent to a cart fee may be charged.

John’s Island Club is a NO TIPPING facility; however, tipping is permitted for locker room service. Tipping is also permitted for caddies. PLEASE INFORM YOUR GUESTS OF THIS POLICY. As a no tipping facility, it is imperative that ALL Members and Guests adhere to this policy to ensure a consistent level of service.

Some events allow individuals to compete from different tees in the same event. The USGA Handicap system accounts for these differences. USGA Rules govern all Club events with the following exceptions:

• Distance measuring devices ARE permitted in all Club events. Devices with elevation adjustment capabilities are permitted so long as elevation adjustment features are turned off.
• Sprinkler heads near the green: Players may take relief from a fixed sprinkler head that is within two club lengths of the green and on your line of play if your ball is within two club lengths of the sprinkler head.
• All paved cart paths, sprinkler heads, railroad ties, drain covers, and yardage markers which lie in the “general area” are deemed to be immovable obstructions; proceed under Rule 16-1b.
• Bulkheads are considered part of the penalty area, not an obstruction. No relief.
• Penalty Areas, ball played provisionally: If there is doubt whether a ball is in or is lost in the penalty area on the course, the player may play another ball provisionally under any of the applicable options in Rule 18-3.
• If the original ball is found outside the penalty area, the player MUST continue play with it.
• If the original ball is found in the penalty area, the player MAY either continue play with it as it lies, or continue with the ball played provisionally under Rule 18-3.
• If the original ball is not found or identified within the three-minute search period, the player MUST continue with the ball played provisionally.

At the West Course only, balls leaving the General Area (defined as maintained, mowed, or raked areas) may proceed under Penalty Area rules. Penalty Areas are defined as all areas that are marked with red paint, red penalty stakes, or contain pine straw, palmetto, and are not maintained on a regular basis.
